Nordic walking

Nordic walking is a resitance sport and a form of exercise in the outdoors that consists in walking with the help of poles similar to those used by nordic skiers.

With the poles you work the upper body and the back muscles. The firm steps direct the walking using the poles for assistance. The poles are in contact with the ground when the opposite heel hits the ground. The right pole is always in contact with the ground when the left heel hits the ground and the left pole when the right heel touches the ground. The left pole meets the earth at the point of the tip of the left foot and the right pole comes in contact with the earth at the point of the tip of the right foot. One must pay attention to the following to optimize the exercise: make long strides, achieve complete movements with the arms and feet, make the arms as straight as possible and use the strength of the arms going back. The long strides do, however, increase the impact on the joints.
